NSF TCUP / Ellikarrmiut SCIENCE CAMP

Program managers note: The KuC Science and Technology Academy, NSF TCUP and the University is committed to provideing qualtiy educational opportunities and incentives for the Yupik, Chupig and Athabascan people of our region. The resources developed at Nash Harbor represent a significant opportunity to initaite a 'world class' science training and research facility in one of the USA's premier wilderness areas. The summer of 2004 initiated that effort...we are pround of the first students, staff and faculty of the UAF Kuskokwim Campus and our partners USFWS and NIMA corporation...Quyana...see you next summer! Bay overview

During the summer of 2004 the Kuskokwim Campus, in cooperation with NIMA Corporation on Nunivak Island, supported by a TCUP grant from the National Science Foundation with supplimental funding from the US Department of Agriculture, was able to 'jump start' a very important summer science field camp for Native youth in the YK Delta.

This camp and the curricula will be used as incentive for Hign School Juniors who are committed to the NSF TCUP Science and Technology Academy academic pathway. Students will recieve 4 credits in BIOL 104 Natural History of Alaska...there are plans to extend the curriculum to offer credit to students interested in the Ethnobotany core curriculum.
