Bob Brown’s first two college degrees (B.S. and M.S.) were in aeronautical and astronautical engineering at theUniversity of Illinois . Following that he worked for about four years for Lockheed Missiles and Space Corporation as a research engineer working on the Apollo moon program. During that time he studied graduate mathematics at the University of Alabama . In 1969 he received his last degree (Ph.D. in theoretical and applied mechanics) and then worked for 33 years at Montana State University . While there he taught engineering mechanics courses in the Engineering College and conducted research on snow, ice, sea ice and avalanches. This research took him all over the world, including Japan , India , the South Pole, Russia , and many countries in Western and Eastern Europe . In 2004 he began work at KuC and now teaches math and physics there. He is married and has three children, all of whom are in their thirties.
